The Deity

Naiá was a Tupi maiden who fell in love with the moon. She reached for its reflection in the river and drowned. The moon, moved by her devotion, transformed her into the giant water lily. Victoria amazonica. Every new moon, when no reflection appears, Naiá still reaches.
