Tonight the moon says drink

Trovão de Tupã

Thunder of the Thunder God

Half the sky is lit. Half is lying. Tupã does not warn you. He just arrives. Toffee hits first. Dark chocolate rolls through. Then citrus cracks like lightning across the roof of your mouth.

O Ciclo de Cairé

The Lunar Cycle

The moon does not ask what you want. It gives you what the cycle demands.

Boca de Naiá

Mouth of the Drowned Maiden

Naiá was a Tupi maiden who fell in love with the moon. She reached for its reflection in the river and drowned. The moon, moved by her devotion, transformed her into the giant water lily. Victoria amazonica. Every new moon, when no reflection appears, Naiá still reaches.

Cairé, the goddess, tending coffee rows by moonlight

A Guardiã do Café

The Guardian of the Coffee

She tends the rows by moonlight.

She knows which beans the crescent claims and which the full moon demands.

When the farmers sleep, Cairé walks between the plants, touching each cherry that is ready.

She has done this since before there was a name for coffee. She will do it long after the last roaster forgets why they look up.

The Moon Reads You

O Oráculo

The Oracle

Three questions. The moon will choose your blend.

Question 1 of 3

When does your mind wake?

Told in the Manner of Cordel

A Lenda de Cairé

The Legend of the Moon’s Face

I. The Goddess

In forests where the rivers bend,

Where moonlight finds no living friend,

A goddess walked the coffee rows—

Cairé, who felt what darkness knows.

II. The Farmers

She watched the farmers plant by phase,

Their hands like roots through mist and haze.

“Each moon,” she spoke, “shall choose a blend,

From new moon’s start to crescent’s end.”

III. The Blends

Eight faces of the moon she drew

And matched each one to flavor true:

Light roasts born when darkness falls,

Dark roasts answering midnight’s calls.

IV. The Ritual

So drink by moon, as Cairé said.

Let lunar light choose what is fed

Into your cup, your morning rite—

A sip of forest, flame, and night.

— As told by the farmers of Cerrado, written by moonlight —
